Central Route in Lanzarote

The cultural offer of the island's capital, Arrecife, is an essential part of the tour, especially with landmarks like Castillo de San Gabriel, which hosts an archaeological exhibition, and Castillo de San José, now home to the International Museum of Contemporary Art. A few kilometers away in the town of Tahiche, a mobile sculpture signals the arrival at the former private residence of César Manrique, now the César Manrique Foundation. This foundation, created by the artist himself during his lifetime, promotes a blend of cultural and environmental initiatives. Its museum provides a complete overview of Manrique's creative journey.

Heading towards the center, La Villa de Teguise, the former capital of the island, is a must-visit. This town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Heritage Site for its well-preserved architecture. On the nearby Guanapay Mountain, you'll find Santa Bárbara Castle, now a Piracy Museum. Also worth visiting are the Palacio Spínola and the Casa Marqués de Herrera y Rojas. On Sunday mornings, Teguise hosts a lively and popular market.

Continuing the route towards San Bartolomé, located in the geographical center of the island, you’ll find Mozaga, where the Monumento al Campesino (Monument to the Farmer) stands. This monument, titled Fertility, honors the island’s farmers. In the same area, the Museo del Campesino (Peasant Museum) showcases the architecture and various aspects of Lanzarote's traditional rural life, including its gastronomy.

The tour concludes in Tiagua, where you'll visit the Museo Agrícola El Patio, a vast rustic property that faithfully recreates Lanzarote’s rural traditions. It includes a mill, as well as extensive facilities with rooms representing the island’s architectural typology and a variety of agricultural tools and implements.
