Uga is one of the most of Lanzarote, located near the Timanfaya National Park, known for its low traditional white houses and the largest camel settlement in the Canary Islands.
Uga is located a few km north of Yaiza. The growth of both towns in recent years has brought them so close that they are almost confused.
The town of Uga is several centuries old and dates back to the 16th century. Uga has always preserved traditional Canarian architecture, with its white houses around the Church of San Isidro Labrador, the tallest tower in town.
In addition to this, the proximity to La Geria and the various nearby wineries, restaurants with local cuisine and other delicacies such as smoked salmon and its artisan cheeses, make Uga an essential place to visit.
Uga is a charming town where you can enjoy quiet walks throughout the week. Many of its houses are centuries old and the church of San Isidro Labrador and its plaza are located in the center of the town of UGA.
During the weekends, the Uga Market (next to the church) offers craft products from farmers and ranchers in the area, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Also in the Uga Valley there are various farms for breeding Dromedaries (one-humped camels), traditionally used on trips to Timanfaya and for those who prefer horses, there is also the offer of walk with these animals.
The town of Uga celebrates every May 15 the feast of its patron San Isidro Labrador. For several days the town dresses up and organizes different recreational activities for visitors and locals. Traditional dances and their well-known pilgrimage join nightly youth parties during the days of celebration for the good harvest of their land.
