On the nearby Isleta de La Santa, nature lovers will find a fascinating paleontological site. Scattered fragments of an ancient coastline, dating back to the last interglacial period around 135,000 years ago, have been discovered here. Among the findings is the so-called “Senegalese fauna,” including corals that once reached their northernmost point in this area — a treasure trove for those interested in geology and Earth’s history.

In Lanzarote it is known as Gamba de La Santa and in the rest of the world as Soldier Shrimp (Plesionika edwardsii). It is a very abundant crustacean in the area.
