Its existence as a population center has been recorded since the first decades of the 18th century.

The crater of El Cuchillo is full of plantations, it was formerly famous for tobacco plantations. Nowadays, it is used to grow vegetables due to its high degree of fertility.
The festival of El Cuchillo is celebrated at the end of October in honor of the Virgen del Pilar. These festivities consist of 12 days where a multitude of workshops and activities are held for all the residents of the town.
The Sociocultural Center of El Cuchillo comes alive with various ball or card championships, workshops, gymkhanas and other family activities.
The festivities come to an end with a religious function for the Virgen del Pilar.
