Ye, Órzola (Atrás beach) by Casa de la Breña

We start from the hermitage of Ye heading northeast along the road that crosses the town. After reaching the crossroads of the road that leads to the Mirador del Río, we continue north along a dirt and oak track surrounded by farmland, from which we can see both the Famara Massif and the Malpaís de la Corona.

In the farmland there are small stone constructions, used as shelter by farmers. In the area corresponding to the Massif, the dominant vegetation is bitter spurges (Euphorbia regis-jubae), gorse (Launaea arborescens), bobos (Nicotiana glauca) and other plants used as fodder for livestock.

We continue descending to the east along the slopes of the Volcán de la Quemada and Lomo Blanco until reaching the road from Ye to Órzola, to Casas de la Breña. We continue then about 400 m. until connecting with the old path of Órzola, which has a slightly stepped surface to collect rainwater towards the topsails and cisterns that surround it.

In Órzola we will be struck by the salt flats that surround the town which, although abandoned, perfectly preserve its layout. However, the most interesting element is the intertidal zone, one of the most important in the Canary Islands. It is a highly important habitat as it is home to a rich marine fauna that sustains a diverse bird life, mainly made up of migratory birds.

Near Órzola is the Shearwater Farm, which with an area of 70.00 m2, it houses an important representation of the flora and fauna of Lanzarote.

This route ends at Playa de la Cantería or Playa de Atras where we can take a bath with a beautiful view of the imposing Famara cliff.
