Tanit Ethnographic Museum

Tanit Ethnographic Museum

The Tanit Ethnographic Museum, declared a Center of Tourist and Cultural Interest, is located in the heart of the island, in the town of San Bartolomé of Ajey, one of the first villages established in Lanzarote. The Tanit Ethnographic Museum is located in the old cellars of a traditional Canarian house from the 18th century. Made of volcanic stone, it is provided with large wooden windows that overlook a Canarian patio with an orchard and a hermitage.

A visit to this museum is a broad and complete journey through the difficult day-to-day life of the Lanzarote peasant until the middle of the 20th century. It offers the opportunity to learn how the ancient inhabitants of the island fought against the difficulties of a volcanic island lashed by heat and wind, and managed to adapt and live off the land.

Its rooms include a wide sample of crafts, clothing, tools, ceramics, ancient weapons, clothing and hats of the time... You will enjoy the atmosphere created in its environment preserved for more two hundred years old.

The route through Tanit can conclude in the museum shop where the house bets on the historical and ethnographic bibliography on the Canary Islands and Lanzarote.
