Soo

Soo is a town located in the Northwest of Lanzarote that belongs to the Chinijo Natural Park. Its white houses extend along the foot of the slope of Pico Colorado on its southern side, which protects it from the prevailing winds. A volcano, whose eruption, probably more than three thousand years ago, created Soo's chain. This set of volcanoes aligned from the Northeast to the Southwest begins near the coast in Montaña Cavera, continues through Montaña Chica, reaches its maximum height in Caldera Trasera (293 m.), continues through Pico Colorado and where the plain that forms the Vega de Sóoy de Muñique begins with the small elevation of Montaña Mosta, which is a cone buried by subsequent lavas.

This plain is a paradise for all desert bird watchers such as Trumpeter Finch, Great Bustard, Stone Curlew and Runner, to name just a few.

In the surroundings of Sóo, sweet potatoes and watermelons are grown, the latter being internationally recognized for their flavor and freshness.

What to do

Soo is a key point on the island to be able to make routes along the already formed paths of the Jable natural area. These extensions of sand from marine sediments are exclusive to the island of Lanzarote. Special care must be taken with the flora and fauna of the area, since it is totally protected, called a ZEPA zone (special protected area for birds).

Due to its proximity to the towns of La Santa, Caleta de Cabllo and Famara, in Soo you can find shops with products necessary for the practice of Surfing, useful for surfers passing by to go catch waves on the coast.

In addition, Soo has the most traditional shops on the island, with 100% ecological products and km 0 , ideal shops to taste the products grown in Lanzarote
