In the heart of Puerto del Carmen there is an area known as Grandes Playas, which includes Playa Grande, Los Pocillos and Matagorda beach itself.
To the north of Los Pocillos beach, following the succession of beaches that wind along the coastline of the tourist center of Puerto del Carmen, and separated by a ledge known as Piedras de la Cima, is Matagorda beach of about 850 m of fine, toasted sand, an attractive beach, suitable for practicing windsurfing.
Parallel to the coastline runs Avenida de las Playas, the main artery of Puerto del Carmen. Between the avenue and the beach there is a wide promenade that has a garden area and a multitude of palm trees. The walk is somewhat elevated in relation to the beach.
Puerto del Carmen is one of the main tourist areas on the island, so it has all kinds of facilities and a wide range of leisure activities, especially linked to water sports.
In addition, the coast of Puerto del Carmen is one of the best places in the Canary Islands for diving.
