Volcanoes Natural Park

Volcanoes Natural Park

It was declared as La Geria Natural Park on June 19, 1987 and reclassified on December 1994 Natural Park. It has an area of 10,158 hectares that belong to the municipalities of Tinajo, Tias and Yaiza.

It is a land of volcanic origin with strange and curious formations arising from the solidification of lava. This space brings together the best examples of lava flows and lapilli fields. The most recent set of lavas and the elements associated with it is of great geomorphological interest, giving the area a high value landscape.

Flora and Fauna

The presence of vegetation is very scarce, except in the areas of oldest materials, prior to the last eruptions 1730 and 1736 and in 1824. Lichens proliferate in these areas, with almost a hundred different species. In the cooler areas, wild geranium, hearts and bejeques are common.

As for fauna, reptiles dominate, but it is the presence of communities of seabirds, which they have adapted well to the exceptional conditions of the park, which have given this space an additional scientific value.
