Muñique is a small town belonging to the municipality of Teguise that extends along the road that connects Tiagua with Soo and is concentrated in a small nucleus around the church. It is a smaller town than those that surround it but with the same magic and tranquility. The few buildings look towards Soo and the Risco de Famara.
Muñique, the ancient aboriginal settlement mentioned by Torriani in the 16th century under the name of «MUNIG», was located near the Casa Honda site. The location in the surroundings of Muñique of ceramic remains, houses, and cisterns, demonstrates the origin of this town, which was already inhabited when the Norman conquerors arrived in 1402.
Currently, in Muñique we can see some dunes and crops both in jable or in rofe of different traditional products such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, watermelons, melons, lentils, etc.
From Muñique, you can start some of the routes that cross the jable, both on foot and by bicycle. Due to its designation ZEPA (area of special protection for birds), we must take special care during our visit so as not to disturb its habitat or the nests of the birds that live there. house.
Muñique celebrates its festivities in honor of Santa Fátima and San Isidro Labrador from May 3 to 20. It is without a doubt the best way to integrate with the residents of the town to attend any of the activities that are carried out on these dates: dessert contest, gymkhanas for the little ones, guateques…
