La Cueva del Majo

Located on the outskirts, northeast of Tiagua, in the land belonging to the "Museo Agrícola El Patio" farmhouse, La Cueva del Majo lies about 250 meters to the east of the farmhouse's house.

La Cueva del Majo is a natural cave within a volcanic tube, open at ground level. It is rectangular in shape and large in size, divided by solid dry stone walls into nine compartments, arranged along a central corridor.

The cave is accessed by descending several steps that lead to a wide chamber. The height of the chamber, measuring 4.3 meters, allows easy passage through its interior.

Among the materials recovered from the site, there are numerous fragments of Aboriginal ceramics, as well as various stone tools, such as burnishers, cutters, pieces of stone from rotating hand mills, and grinders. These items are all displayed in the aforementioned museum.

During the Civil War, La Cueva del Majo served as a refuge and later as a dumping site. Today, it remains in an acceptable state of preservation.
