The plow lift, in the Canary Islands, can be considered both a physical challenge and a sporting activity, where strength, skill, and experience are combined with mental concentration.
Using their arms, the participant lifts a plow by grasping it at the end opposite the blade, raising it from the ground to a vertical position and balancing it there, before lowering it in a controlled manner back to a horizontal position, followed by a 360º rotation, and finally placing it back on the ground.
This modality is relatively recent. All available data suggests it began to be practiced along the Telde region, in the southeast of Gran Canaria, at the beginning of this century. As a newer activity, it is not as widespread as Canarian Wrestling, for example, but the plow lift is currently practiced in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and more recently in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
