The Integral Natural Reserve of the Islets covers an area of 165.2 hectares and was declared on December 19, 1994, although it had previously been part of the Natural Park of the Islets of the North of Lanzarote and the Riscos of Famara since 1986.
This reserve consists of the Islets of Montaña Clara, along with Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste (also known as Roque del Infierno), located in the Chinijo Archipelago, to the north of Lanzarote. These islets form a landscape of exceptional beauty and unique geological characteristics, making them remarkable geomorphological elements that hold significant scientific value.
The islets are of great importance as a habitat for a wide variety of species, especially endangered and protected birds. They serve as critical nesting and refuge areas for both marine and terrestrial species, including native and migratory birds. Notably, the Bald-breasted Storm-petrel nests exclusively on these islets within the archipelago.
In addition to their ecological value, the islets also contain paleontological sites, further enhancing their scientific significance.
Due to the delicate nature of this environment and its exceptional biodiversity, human presence is strictly prohibited on any of the islets, and underwater activity in their surrounding waters is also prohibited.
