Located in the municipality of Teguise, Famara beach It is the largest in Lanzarote, with more than 3 km in length. It is located within a natural park of the Chinijo archipelago.
It is a beach of great beauty, the result of its golden sand, its rough sea and its location at the foot of the imposing Risco de Famara.
The rush of the waves makes bathing very dangerous. These characteristics make it one of the largest spots on the island for surfing. You can also practice windsurfing in the wave and funboard modalities, but only by the very expert. It also has a delimited area for kitesurfing.
There are several well-differentiated areas of the beach. The part closest to the town has the worst waves and with less force, it also depends a lot on the conditions.
The best area to surf in Famara is called El Papelillo in the northern part of the beach near the low ones that are in the middle of the sea. We can also find here the spot of El Barco, for beginners who are beginning to make the wall, or El Molino, a spot chosen by the schools for a first initiation to surfing.
This beach needs the sea from the West and the wind from the East, normally when these peaks work best it is always when the tide is rising, or when it is high. The waves depend on the low sand, although with those conditions, you always have a very good swim, with long, powerful waves and often quite tuberous.
It is also advisable to get up early or take advantage of the last rays of the afternoon sun, since sometimes the onshore wind picks up during the rest of the day, which can spoil the bathing conditions.
