In the municipality from Yaiza, in the southwestern part of the island, a few kilometers from the fishing village of El Golfo, and within the limits of the Timanfaya National Park, about 30 minutes on foot by the the path to the coast or the fishermen's path that takes us to Playa del Paso, is the Cueva del Esqueleto.
Cave of volcanic origin of about 567 m. Like the neighboring Cueva del Covóno de la Chifletera, it has access through the mountain to about 300 meters< /span> inland from the coast and exit to the sea through a cliff above Playa del Paso p>
The entrance hole inside is difficult to find with the naked eye, so we recommend the use of GPS. Once in the area we can find 3 holes only one is the entrance to the cave. The exit along the coast requires some climbing skills, so it is also a good option. ;n retrace our steps to go out again. The name is due to the fact that a group of speleologists located, in 1964, a human skeleton belonging to an individual adult, with more than 200 years old, which conserved the hair gathered in a braid approximately 0.50 meters long. It was also collected the hair of another individual with 0´65 meters long. The body found was wearing, as a pendant – amulet, a piece of bone belonging to a human sternum of an individual young.
