History

The company Explosivos Rio Tinto, then directed by D. Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, later President of the Government, bought the company. He built a 12 million square meter estate, in order to use it as a high-level tourist development, which he baptized as "Urbanizacion Costa de Teguise", which was therefore planned from the beginning as a tourist center of the island.

It started its construction in 1970 and with the first 5-star hotel in Lanzarote, the Gran Meli�. Salinas, designed by architect Fernando Higueras with the collaboration of local artist C�sar Manrique. This has been followed by many other 4 and 5 star hotels.
