In the municipality of Yaiza, in the southwestern part of the island, a few kilometers from the town Cueva del Covóno de la Chifletera is located within the limits of the Timanfaya National Park, on the fishermen's path that leads to Playa del Paso. A volcanic tube product of the last eruptions of Timanfaya (1730-1736). This cavity, located in the middle of the cliff in the Gulf area, has two entrances, one located towards the profile of the coast and the other about 700 meters from the coast within the lava field.
With a very high ceiling, with some subsidence and chaos of blocks in some points, it has approximately 300 meters surveyed. Like the neighboring Cueva del Paso or Cueva del Esqueleto, it has access through the mountains and exits to the sea through a cliff.
The name of Chifletera is due to the fact that in that place of the coast there are many mouths and caves that, when filled violently with the waves and have some vent on their upper part, produce the sound which in other places are called bufaderos.
